Edward Killingworth Johnson (1825-1896) Apart from having a few lessons at the Langham Life School, Edward Killingworth Johnson was virtually a self taught watercolour artist. He produced a large number of genre paintings, many of them pictures of little girls in various poses and situations. He was an excellent artist who used pure watercolour in combination with bodycolour, a technique in which the two are mixed to give an opaque look to the painting and often called gouache. All his work is highly finished. Killingworth Johnson was born in Stratford le Bow and lived in London for many years before he moved to Halstead, Essex. (haynesfineart.com)
