Vicente Manansala was born on January 22,1910 in Macabebe, Pampanga. He worked at a Manila painting shop doing movie posters. He studied Fine Arts in the University of the Philippines in 1926. After he finished his schooling, he worked as billboard painter and laborer in the Ipo Dam Construction. Manansala married to Hermenigilda Diaz. In 1934, he worked as a mess boy aboard the English ship Silver Palm. He also worked as illustrator, cultural office in local Hodobu, Japanese Occupational Government. At this time he joined the National Art Exposition by UST for ''Pounding Rice'' and won the first prize.
He also won the first prize in Art Association of the Philippines First Annual Art Competition for Banaklaot. Manansala become professor in UST School of Fine Arts.He also awarded as outstanding UP Alumnus Distinction. In the year 1981, Vicente Manansala proclaimed as the National Artist after his death in Makati.
